Robert “Little Man” Fagg and the Confederates Motorcycle Club presented a check in the amount of $12,000 to the Foundation’s Brighter Christmas Fund on Saturday. Independent Mail publisher Susan Kelly-Gilbert thanked the bikers who gathered at the newspaper office for the presentation.
The bikers’ generosity at Christmas is legendary. Year after year, no matter the current state of the economy, they give. Motorcyclist Robert “Little Man” Fagg organizes the toy parade and has had a key role in it for the last 33 years. The late Jack Hurley, a former sports writer at the Independent Mail, approached Fagg with the idea of the parade all those years ago, and it’s been happening ever since.” We just want to do whatever we can to help these kids” he said.
Foothills Community Foundation president Robert Rainey noted that the Club has donated approximately $12,000 to the Brighter Christmas Fund year after year. “During those times when our donations may have dwindled somewhat, we can count on these folks to come through for us.”
The money the motorcyclists raised comes from the sale of T-shirts, sponsorships and raffle tickets. The toys that are collected are distributed through Anderson Cares, a local program that helps needy families give their children gifts at Christmas.
