Foothills Community Foundation presented a check in the amount of $5,000 to the American Red Cross in Anderson to match their disaster relief donations in the wake of a recent tragedy. The American Red Cross has provided a variety of services to the Azalea Apartment complex families since the August 14 fire, and will continue to help meet additional needs as they arise.
Since the fire occurred, here is how the Red Cross has helped:
• 71 clients assisted,
• 38 cases opened,
• 29 families assisted with hotel stays,
• 16 families assisted with permanent housing options,
• 38 families assisted with groceries, clothing, shoes,
• 4 families assisted with infant supplies, 2 families with cribs,
• 106 Health Services contacts, such as medication, eye ware and denture replacement,
• 49 Emotional Care contacts,
• 583 meals,
• 1,504 snacks,
• 314 items such as cleaning supplies, flashlights, work gloves, storage containers, gas cards, etc.,
• 69 Comfort Kits containing toothpaste, shampoo, soap, etc.
• Numerous referrals to our Community Partner Agencies in Anderson County.
The care is on-going and the Red Cross will continue to work with the families to help them through the recovery process.
