This is part of our ongoing “Donor Spotlight” series.

Spotlight on: Bob and Kristina Austin

Bob Austin recognized the need for indigent dental services and responded by pioneering the community’s first free dental clinic at the Anderson Free Clinic in 1991. “We discovered that poor dental health was having a major impact upon the overall health of our community and decided it was time to act.”

Dr. Austin began his dental training in the United States Air Force where he served four years of active duty as a dental tech, and then continued his education at the University of South Carolina and MUSC School of Dental Medicine where he received his Doctorate in Dental Medicine.  Founder and owner of Austin Pray Family Dentistry, Dr. Austin has been recognized with a number of awards, the prestigious “Pointing the Way” award and most recently the “Fifteen over Fifty” award for community leadership.

Kristi explains, “The Austin Donor Advised Fund provides us with an uncomplicated approach to giving.   Helping others has just been a way of life for us.  Our partnership with the Foothills Community Foundation makes it easier to fulfill our philanthropic goals.”

“You make a living by what you take out of the community, but you make a life by what you put back into it.”
